Getting my computer up to speed is very important in my line of work, it is critical that everything is running smoothly – from boot up to shutdown – because every second counts, and slowdown, glitches and bugs are annoying. Here are some quick tips that Windows users like me can do to get things running smoothly:

1. Run “Resource Monitor” and check for programs that hog your resources. The most common slowdown culprit for Windows users are programs related to search and indexing. If indexing and search hogs your CPU, memory or hard drive performance, you should research on troubleshooting them.

2. Remove unwanted programs that run during boot up. You can do this by going to MSconfig or Taskmanager, and by checking the start up programs. Remove programs that you don’t need on this list and your boot up and slow down will have a tremendous increase in efficiency.

3. Check your computer for virus and spyware. The safest and most convenient way is by making sure that you install all the important Windows defender updates. You can do this by opening the Windows update program inside control panel.

There are other methods of improving computer performance, but these are the three things that I usually look into as I go about my daily tasks. There are other methods that require a 3rd party program or service, which maybe costly. I wanted to try to speed up computer at Iolo.com, but I haven’t gotten around to actually try it yet to provide detailed feedback.

One of the most unreasonable rules that we have to abide by as we wait for our house renovation is the “no drilling” rule. Our apartment is spacious and elegant, but the problem is we can’t change how it looks because we are not allowed to drill holes on the walls. This means we can’t hang photos, paintings, fans, TVs etc. Our air conditioning unit have also been put aside because of the ridiculous rule! We had to buy flat panel stands just to be able to set up our LCD TV properly, albeit the stand takes up quite a lot of space. I can’t wait to finally get back to our house and drill holes to my heart’s content.

What is the quickest way to improve playing technique – this is one of the most common question that I get from my students. It’s as if they are looking for a shortcut to improving their skills, unfortunately I have to give them the hard facts that the quickest way is discipline, proper practice regimen and good old wood shedding. This question gives me the opportunity to explain the importance of every aspect of their playing – specifically timing and rhythm. This is where I direct the student’s attention to metronomes and playing with backing tracks or virtual drum machines like the fxpansion geist at Guitar Center.

While everyone else are on vacation, the holy week is one of the most busiest week for me and my guitars. We usually hold multiple church services within the week, which means that we have to prepare a good number of songs, and ofcourse play them live. Since I am now living quite a distance away from our local church, I’m expecting the schedule and travel time to be quite a challenge this year. So what I did was to prepare a long term schedule for the last week of March and I also ensured that my gear is ready for the task. Good thing the strings are still OK, but I might have to shop elixir strings just to be on the safe side. Oh and I almost forgot that I have to make sure our car is running properly to handle the constant traveling!

Since its open beta launch last December, I’ve been hooked to Ragnarok Online 2. Although the game is really just a substandard WOW clone, I find it fun because it brings back fond memories of the original game of which I played around a decade ago. Instead of looking for discount cigars online, I was immersed into a virtual world called Fenrir, of which I was able to get my avatar up to the highest level – and was one of the first few to ever do it on our server. Although I’m not as passionate as before, it is still a great game of which I use to entertain myself.

We have submitted all our requirements to the City Hall planning department back in mid-January, but up to now we are still getting the same run-around and lame excuse from them. After almost two months, they are still not done getting the permit ready even when we accomplished all that they needed. Are they sitting on the papers? Does it need more than a month to review the plans and compute for the tax? If I were their manager I’d fire their ass for being unbelievably lazy!

So for now we have to wait before we continue with the construction of the new house, if only they did their job properly, half of the house would probably be already done, and we can even have the garden water fountain started. I’m not easily ticked but I just can’t stand lazy employees – especially those in the government!
