Z – the Brave one

Z – the Brave one

Recently Z has proven to me how he is one brave boy. I grew up with very minimal trips to the dentist, my family would rather use the thread and door technique to save money instead of having a Dentist remove a tooth. My son has it different though, his mom is very adamant in taking him to the dentist every time she remembers to do it. Since we have a medical plan like Blue Cross NC, we are entitled to teeth cleaning and other dental procedures. And so Z had another trip to the dentist, only this time the Dentist did a lot of “unimaginably horrible things” like injecting on the gum and removing Z’s old broken teeth. It was done quickly and my brave little mini-me did the best to stay calm and not cry. I am not so sure if I could have been that brave myself so I applaud him.

Naruto – Rasengan Happy Meal

Naruto – Rasengan Happy Meal

My son and myself are big fans of Naruto. We watch the English subbed anime every week, and I always read the weekly manga. So when I heard that there was a Naruto happy meal toy being sold at McDonald food chain, we hurriedly got one without any hesitation. I wanted a funny Chouji, the one who used the best weight loss pill that gave him powers, just to tease Z.  But of course my son picked the Rasengan toy. Look how happy he was when he got it:

Kuya Z

Kuya Z

In anticipation of our coming baby, we have been carefully preparing our soon to be Kuya, Z. Preparing him for the coming baby is just as important as mom J taking her prenatal vitamins. At first Z feels that we are just joking, but lately he is beginning to understand and is getting as excited as we are about the prospect of having a younger baby sibling. My wife’s belly does not show much yet but it is getting bigger and Z is taking note of it. We can’t wait to see how Z will take care of his little sibling – I am sure they will get along just fine.

Z’s appetite

Z’s appetite

The hardest part of rearing Z is having him eat enough quantity and quality food. It’s like he is using appetite suppressants – if he was overweight it would be welcome but currently he needs to eat more. Both my wife and myself were also thin when we were young so the way Z is turning out is expected. But we want Z to at least have some more meat under his skin. We just had a check up with a pediatrician, and she said that Z was thin – but he is not yet under weight. Although she did urge us to watch what Z is eating. Z has to avoid his favorite junk food, cookies and powdered juices. Instead he needs to eat bread and have enough vegetables. The pediatrician mentioned that Multivatimins does not help with gaining weight – it only helps provide nutrients that Z is not getting in his current diet. So for her – the best solution is to have a good pattern and discipline when it comes to eating. Even though this is going to entail hard effort and patience – we are commited to see this through so that Z will be just a bit fatter than his parents.

Z’s Vacation Bible School 2010

Z’s Vacation Bible School 2010

Zyke finished his Vacation Bible School today. He got the “Most Attentive” award -which came as a very welcome surprise to us. I want nothing less than for my son to grow in the knowledge and love of God. Quoting and modernizing Joshua 24:15 – But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served before, or the gods of the current world where people only answer to themselves… “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

Second coming

Second coming

I’m not talking about THE second coming, I am talking about our anticipated second baby. Z is finally going to be a full pledged Kuya! Since Z is already 5, we decided to follow up and have another baby. We want our son to experience at least having one sibling that is not too far from his age. And we are thankful to God for giving us this opportunity for the second time. Now that my wife J is expecting a baby – we are looking for the right womens vitamins to help her and the baby in the first few months of pregnancy. This will defnitely be an exciting, tiring and long 8 months. But as it was with Z, the wait is absolutely worth it. What bothers me now is what to name our future son or daughter.

Naruto Shippuden Movie – “Inheritors of the Will of Fire”

Naruto Shippuden Movie – “Inheritors of the Will of Fire”

Naruto Shippuden Movie – “Inheritors of the Will of Fire” is the 3rd movie that was released for the Naruto Franchise. I just finished watching it with Z and I have to say it was really good. I was not able to enjoy it fully because my son wants me to translate each line to him so I end up reading the subtitles and simultaneously explaining to him the lines and whatever is happening. We also have to pause whenever a “jutsu” is performed, because Z wants me to teach him the “hand seals”. He was excited all the time, because there were a lot of actions in the movie. Another plus is that almost all of Naruto’s contemporaries are there. The downside I should say is that the enemies are too weak, and took only a few minutes for the different teams to finish off. Anyway the story is pretty straightforward, some old guy wants to assimilate 5 bloodline limit skills and the 5th one happens to be Kakashi. Without giving out too many spoilers, let me just say that the Moral of the story was really good. Bottom line is that the true way of success is not by doing it on your own – but by “bonding” with others – quite deep for a cartoon huh? No need to take out your box cutter to scavenge for the video online, you can watch it here.

Groceries

Groceries

Admittedly so, we are a family that spends a lot on groceries. If you see us in line, you might think we own a sari sari store because of the many items that we purchase. It’s not that we want to spend, it’s just that we are fond of going to grocery stores. I think we should consider looking for custom tote bags, to save on plastic usage.

So why are we fond of tirelessly going around the isles of a grocery? It’s because we have a lot of fun doing it. I would be pushing the grocery kart while my son rides on it. He would use the items in the cart and turn it into a car – complete with the cookie can as steering wheel, 1L juice as handbreak and a shiftstick. Ofcourse he loves the grocery karts of SM hypermart in Pasig where they have actual cars for grocery karts as shown on the picture below. Sometimes I imagine that sooner or later (when Z is 6) Z will probably be too big to fit in the Karts, my baby is growing up really fast. So that is why there isn’t a moment to waste – we have to enjoy every minute that we can with our soon to be big boy – baby.

Car Cleaners

Car Cleaners

Today, Z helped me out in cleaning our car. Being the kid that he is, I knew from the get go that he really does not want to help, instead he wants to play with the water hose. And yes as expected he played with it, he was holding the water hose up while I do the wiping. Since I wanted to be earthfriendly and was doing some green study, I knew that we shouldn’t be using the water hose too much, I only use it for extremely dirty parts and for rinsing. So while preparing the bucket with car shampoo, I was surprised to hear him volunteer to do the wiping! I ofcourse gladly obliged. He actually did more harm and dirtied the car more but it’s ok, I can see how sincerely happy he is with the thought of helping me out. And so we were able to clean the car, I parked it and that was another day in the life of a dad and a son.

Norah Jones Sings “Don’t Know Why” on Sesame Street

I wish we still had “Batibot” and have awesome local artists teach kids through songs. Oh well, the big networks are busy making money. Anyway back to the topic – I wonder if Norah Jones does home service tutoring, my son Z would absolutely love it – well ofcourse I will enjoy it more! Hehe.
