Household Chores for Children
While there are no rules on the amount of time a parent can expect his child to do homework, there are general guidelines about what household chores, a child’s age and maturity, and how long each chore should be accepted based control.
However, well-meaning parents still find that they are frustrated when their child takes too much time to do relatively simple tasks. There could be any number of reasons why the child could take so much time to complete his tasks but the main reason maybe simply his inability to manage his chores without some guidance from the parents.
For parents who struggle with their children to complete tasks in a time frame consider the following strategies:
- Give clear deadlines for completing homework. The rule should be for the children to complete the task over the weekend – from Friday to Sunday. This method allows them to have time management skills in planning their tasks together with other plans that may develop over the weekend.
- Measure the time a particular chore takes your child. A young child may take more time to complete a chore than adults. Measure how long it takes your child to complete a chore in three different events then get the average – that is the time the child can realistically complete a certain chore.
- Set up an alarm. The advantage of using a clock with an alarm is that the parents can remind their children that it is time to do a certain activity, task, or homework. Watches are especially helpful in the implementation of time-critical tasks or those which tend easily slip the minds of children.
As parents we should offer many opportunities to be successful, while helping our children learn and master life skills. By providing clear expectations, giving them adequate training, and then monitoring their work you will be able to give your child a solid foundation to learn and master a chore and learn some important life skills in the process.

Longing For a Vacation
We’re so excited to see our baby but we won’t be able to see her/him until December. I know when the baby comes out we would have our hands full changing diapers and taking turns taking care of the baby. That’s why I hope in the meantime we can go on a vacation. A Branson vacation maybe too far for us for now but maybe a trip to a nearby beach or resort would do. My wife and I certainly need some R and R and even little Z needs some vacation from school. Pretty soon, when our new baby comes out we won’t have time to do anything again say for the next 5 years. LOL!

Practice
It’s been a long time since I had an interview – not to mention an audition! So this week I have been practicing the songs that were assigned for the big day. There was mp3 and music sheet included so I at least have an idea of how the song was arranged and also know the chords that will be used. Just need to play it a few more times to be confident on the audition day. I normally play relaxed but I might stumble and tremble when I know that the likes of musical director Mel Villena is watching and criticizing! Looks like I’ll have to keep the porch lights on all night tonight for my last night of practice. God bless me and may I bless God in return!

Z – the Brave one
Recently Z has proven to me how he is one brave boy. I grew up with very minimal trips to the dentist, my family would rather use the thread and door technique to save money instead of having a Dentist remove a tooth. My son has it different though, his mom is very adamant in taking him to the dentist every time she remembers to do it. Since we have a medical plan like Blue Cross NC, we are entitled to teeth cleaning and other dental procedures. And so Z had another trip to the dentist, only this time the Dentist did a lot of “unimaginably horrible things” like injecting on the gum and removing Z’s old broken teeth. It was done quickly and my brave little mini-me did the best to stay calm and not cry. I am not so sure if I could have been that brave myself so I applaud him.

Naruto – Rasengan Happy Meal
My son and myself are big fans of Naruto. We watch the English subbed anime every week, and I always read the weekly manga. So when I heard that there was a Naruto happy meal toy being sold at McDonald food chain, we hurriedly got one without any hesitation. I wanted a funny Chouji, the one who used the best weight loss pill that gave him powers, just to tease Z. But of course my son picked the Rasengan toy. Look how happy he was when he got it:

Busy and Tiring Rest Day
Now-a-days, I’m beginning to feel that I need more time. I’ve been getting activities after activities that it is starting to choke up my schedule. And the bottom line is I am feeling tired. Just last Sunday, we attended Sunday service at our nearby old church. Then we had my childhood friends visit and eat with us. We then visited a friend who was recovering from sickness. I didn’t realize that the day was about to end so when I got home I spent some time with my son to play with him. After playing when the sun was about to set, I remembered that I have a scheduled band practice and hurriedly prepared to leave. My wife then decided that I should drop them first at my mother’s house so that Z can play with his cousin since it is on the way to the studio. So off we went, I dropped them off while I hurriedly went to the practice venue. After the practice I was so tired that I forgot to have the gas filled up and almost emptied my tank! I could use an anti wrinkle cream that time – good thing there was a gas station nearby. Anyway to make the long story short, we got home safely, and I hurriedly went to bed to sleep. What a way to spend my REST DAY…

Supplements for the Body
Being a Dad is not easy. Aside from our responsibility to work and provide for our family we also need to spend time with our children after a long day at work. It’s not easy and sometimes I have barely time for myself but I’m not complaining. I love those bonding moments with our son. It’s a privilege for me as a father and I will forever treasure those memories in my heart.
There are times though my heart is willing but my body is weak. My job is not easy and sometimes when I get home all I want to do is just lie down and sleep. During those days when I’m already so tired I just drink some nutritional supplements to help my body stay fit and active. Ten years ago I would not be bothered by these but now that I am not getting any younger and with the added responsibilities on my shoulder these have become a necessary part of my life.

Kuya Z
In anticipation of our coming baby, we have been carefully preparing our soon to be Kuya, Z. Preparing him for the coming baby is just as important as mom J taking her prenatal vitamins. At first Z feels that we are just joking, but lately he is beginning to understand and is getting as excited as we are about the prospect of having a younger baby sibling. My wife’s belly does not show much yet but it is getting bigger and Z is taking note of it. We can’t wait to see how Z will take care of his little sibling – I am sure they will get along just fine.

Busy month
This has been a very busy month for me and my family. It all started when we moved to our new home. Since the new home is technically old, a lot of things need to be repaired or replaced so with the help of my uncles and some friends, we crawled our way into fixing a lot of things. One sacrifice though was that we had to turn down a friend’s wedding because it coincided with our moving out day. To think we even had invitations! Anyway I’m sure they will understand, specially now that they will be starting their own family – I’m pretty sure that soon they will get it. The responsibilities and duties that come with maintaining a family and a home.

Car problems – Abnormal Tire Wear
Since we moved to our new home, we have been spending a considerable amount of cash and time on the house. If I had a stash of bullion, it woudn’t be a big deal but it really is a pain to be confronted with a different type of problem – a car problem! I was bringing my car to work everyday and was happy cause it really cut my travel time by a lot. What I didn’t know was that trouble has been brewing – and the first of a continuing series of problems has begun. I noticed a highly unusual tire wear, the inner sides of my two front tires were badly worn out, the repairman was surprised it didn’t blow up yet! I quickly changed the front wheels. Ofcourse the problems and expenses did not end there – I found out that the cause of this abnormal tire wear was improper wheel alignment. So off I went to have the wheels aligned… but I had no idea that more problems were waiting for me and my blue friend.
(To be continued)
