Finally got my Guitar.

Finally got my Guitar.

After waiting for almost a month, the time has come to finally meet with my friend that brought the guitar from US.  I was too excited that day, like a kid I couldn’t sleep at all.  J and Z tagged along, it was at a gig by Muffin band, in Cubao Expo.  We got there early.  When they arrived immediately he handed over the guitar case and told me to check out the guitar, and when I opened – it was even better than the pictures.  It had some blemishes – but all in all – she was a beauty.  Now that I’ve played with it for a while, I am beginning to understand that with great sound comes fragility.  The solid sitka spruce top looks easily scratchable, which led me to think are there cheap insurance for guitars?  In any case – I’m now a proud owner of a handmade Martin & Co dreadnought.  Here’s a pic of the guitar side by side with my son’s classical practice guitar.

Health is Wealth Part 2

Health is Wealth Part 2

I have been doing semi-reglar excercises these past days. I am commited to getting in shape within this year. I know that if I want my son to be physically active, I have to model the behavior, and I won’t be able to do that with my current state of health. After summer, I am thinking of going to the gym, but before I do, I want to at least have excercised at home for at least a month or so straight – so that my body won’t be surprised by the change. As soon as I get rid of belly fat, I can finally move forward into toning and shaping. I know I’m a long way from my goal – but here’s hoping for the best.

Busy Weekend

Busy Weekend

This will be the start of a very busy weekend for me. Tonight I will be attending a practice / jam session with JJ and her band. I’ll be sitting in as her guitar player for Monday night’s gig. In fact while writing this blog post, I am listening to the songs that is on her lineup. After that practice, I will go straight to work until morning, and that won’t be a walk in the park either because Fridays are hectically toxic in the office. After that I’ll be going home to have a few hours of sleep and hop on my Time works for some excercise – which reminds me to look for a treadmill, and then right after that I’ll be on my way to another jam in the afternoon – this time with highschool friends who lives in the far south. That reminds me that I still have to practice the songs they want to jam on! When you think Sunday is gonna be free – you are definitely wrong, 3 major activities still await. We will go to church in the morning as we regularly do, and in the afternoon, we will have a “street jam” at a popular park. After that street jam, we will probably be attending Gospel Jam as well… Yep, there goes my weekend – so much for my restday. I’ll probably start my work week really tired, and yeah I have a gig on Monday night, right before my shift :P .

eBay Experience

eBay Experience

I spent almost 2 days reading reviews and scouring through the countless items on eBay. I had to swim through an ocean of unrelated items at first, like the no extenze side effects products and cars, kitchenware and many more before I was finally able to narrow it down to the guitars I wanted. Even then eBay has a funny way of not recognizing priority in key words, so when I searched for Martin Acoustic Guitar, the first results were pages and pages of Martin Acoustic Guitar “Strings”. So when I finally found the right models, I was thrilled. I always encourage people to try guitars FIRST before buying, so this will be against my philosophy. This is my first time to buy a guitar based on reviews, impression, word of mouth, brand and pictures alone. Made a lot of mistakes and was really surprised at the last minute bidding that is common. Prices even double in the last 2 minutes! Anyway with the help of my friend, I was finally able to decide on what Martin I will buy, and I will review it on my other site once it gets here. Can’t wait!

Hunting for a Martin & Co. guitar

Hunting for a Martin & Co. guitar

I have been spending a lot of time researching and looking for a good Martin Guitar that I can finally call my own. After a lot of research, checking supplement reviews, and with budget limitation in mind, I have come up with a list of Martin guitars that I will have my friend bid on. I mostly based it off on reviews and on the sound that I heard on Youtube. The downside of doing this type of purchase is you’ll never know what you’ll get till you get it. That is why I hope and pray that God will guide that guitar with the perfect wood and construction to this humble home. Anyway here are the models I liked:

- Martin OMC-1E
- Martin DCX-1E
- Martin 000C-16GTE
- MARTIN XC1T Ellipse

My first priority would be the OMC and then the XC1T. I sincerely hope and pray that on May 12, I’ll have my new Martin!!! If it’s for me, it’s for me!

John Mayer in Manila – Rescheduled

John Mayer in Manila – Rescheduled

Sadly, our most awaited event for this summer has been rescheduled for the first of October. While looking at 7-dfbx reviews, I was surprised to see an announcement from the organizer of John Mayer’s concert here in Manila. Let me quote the official announcement below:

Dear all,

Channel V and Fearless have just sent me their official statement on the postponement of Mayer’s concert from May 16 to Oct. 1. I have uploaded it in the photos section. But here’s the text of the statement, in full:

As conveyed by our agent, Music Management International (MMI) through Ms. Rhiza Pascua, John Mayer will be rescheduling his Manila concert slated on May 16 to October 1 of this year due to undisclosed reasons. As advised by MMI, John Mayer’s Management will provide Fearless Productions and Channel [V] Philippines with the official documentation. As of Press time, fearless Productions and Channel [V] Philippines are still awaiting for such.

We wish to inform the General Public that all tickets purchased for the John Mayer Live in Manila concert tour shall be honored on the new concert date or returned to the respective outlet where the ticket was purchased for a full refund. Kindly wait for future event detail announcements through Channel [V].

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

So now, I have to worry about refunding the tickets. I highly doubt that John Mayer will come here on October, because looking at his tour page, he is somewhere in the United States in September, far from Asia. It’s sad but we have to move on. Anyway this gives me an opportunity to get a new acoustic guitar. A friend is coming back from the states, so might as well have him buy me that guitar that I’ve been scouting for and pay for it when he gets here.

OGenki – Japanese Restaurant

OGenki – Japanese Restaurant

I am a fan of Japanese food. During my teens, we used to ran a Japanese Restaurant business of our own and I helped prepare and serve food for our customers. The plus side is I get to taste/eat everything, while the downside is I always lack sleep! Our specialty was the Okonomiyaki or what we fondly called the Japanese Pancake/Pizza – which I dearly miss. It’s just a bunch of vegies with some seafood meat bound together by flour and spices and cooked like a pizza – but the taste was WOW. The cooking on our restaurant was first class – mostly because our cook, which is also the owner and my step father – is a genuine Japanese. Japanese are not only known for their cooking, they are also known for their orderliness and cleanliness. With great tasting food combined with awesome presentation and nice looking ambiance, we were able to gather “Big Time” loyal customers. Just to name a few: Our Town’s Mayor and Congressman, along with their entire security detail and friends were a common site on our restaurant. We also have bosses, engineers of Japanese / Korean companies like Sanyo and other companies within Taguig. We also have rich Japanese nationals that are currently living in the Philippines. We also deliver to factories that are run by Japanese within the area. So if you look at it, the business was doing good. However it was not making enough to match what my stepfather would make if he was running his restaurant in Japan. One notable error in judgment that most agreed on is that we should have established the restaurant in a better location (i.e. within a mall or near a class A village). So after more than a year of running, we sadly closed down the restaurant. And my stepfather left for Japan for good. If it was still open, I’d be sure to bring Z and my wife J as often as possible. That is one thing I wish they were able to experience.

Busted Video Card

Busted Video Card

My video card broke down. As you can see in the pics below, 3 capacitors blew off. I’m just glad it didn’t have any effect on the board and other parts. A friend says that I can just replace the capacitors which are Fz75 6.3v types… but I doubt I can find replacements, I tried but there was none. I’ll probably just get a new one. For now, instead of playing online games, I can browse for Branson vacation packages or maybe a new guitar. Oh well, things like this happen. The onle good I see out of this is that I now have a reason to upgrade my Video card… :P
