How to Apply for a Building Permit

Looking to start a construction project in the UK, of any type, requires a reasonable amount of time and effort to obtain the proper permissions and licensing necessary to allow you to legally undertake construction projects.
The first action you should undertake in attempting to start a construction project is to obtain planning permission from your local county council or building regulation authority. These can be obtained from filling in the correct paperwork and having an inspection from a council official. Planning permission applications typically take roughly eight weeks, however, more complex projects may take longer.
To have the highest possible chance of haing your planning permission granted, ensure any neighbours or local residents are happy for your construction project and are unlikely to appeal the request. It is also wise, once planning permission has been approved, to ensure metal suppliers, construction workers, vehicles and any other onsite staff are properly licensed and qualified.
