LTO Number Coding

LTO Number Coding

Now that I’ll be driving almost every day, I need to better understand Metro Manila’s Traffic Reduction schemes. I have been on the lookout – looking for an article that can better explain to me how the Number Coding – the current traffic reduction scheme works. And here is the information that I got:

From 7:00am to 7:00pm, vehicles with license plate numbers ending with these digits are prohibited from being on the road.

Plate ending with 1 or 2 – Monday
Plate ending with 3 or 4 – Tuesday
Plate ending with 5 or 6 – Wednesday
Plate ending with 7 or 8 – Thursday
Plate ending with 9 or 0 – Friday

Fortunately for those of us who only have 1 car, there are “Window Hours” for Private Vehicles, and the standard is 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. However some municipalities – so better stay away from them when you’re on your coding day – that does not have any window. They are Pasay City, Makati City and San Juan. On the other hand there are also two municipalities that do not implement the number coding scheme, namely: Paranaque and Marikina.

Note that most roads that pass through the strict no window municiplaties will still have it’s own windows in effect – example would be C5 and EDSA.

The rules might change or might already have changed so for further clarifications please contact the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) at:

MMDA Building, EDSA corner Orense St., Guadalupe, Makati City
Trunk Line: (+632) 882-4151 to 77
MMDA HOT LINE: (02) 136

Safe driving!
