OGenki – Japanese Restaurant
I am a fan of Japanese food. During my teens, we used to ran a Japanese Restaurant business of our own and I helped prepare and serve food for our customers. The plus side is I get to taste/eat everything, while the downside is I always lack sleep! Our specialty was the Okonomiyaki or what we fondly called the Japanese Pancake/Pizza – which I dearly miss. It’s just a bunch of vegies with some seafood meat bound together by flour and spices and cooked like a pizza – but the taste was WOW. The cooking on our restaurant was first class – mostly because our cook, which is also the owner and my step father – is a genuine Japanese. Japanese are not only known for their cooking, they are also known for their orderliness and cleanliness. With great tasting food combined with awesome presentation and nice looking ambiance, we were able to gather “Big Time” loyal customers. Just to name a few: Our Town’s Mayor and Congressman, along with their entire security detail and friends were a common site on our restaurant. We also have bosses, engineers of Japanese / Korean companies like Sanyo and other companies within Taguig. We also have rich Japanese nationals that are currently living in the Philippines. We also deliver to factories that are run by Japanese within the area. So if you look at it, the business was doing good. However it was not making enough to match what my stepfather would make if he was running his restaurant in Japan. One notable error in judgment that most agreed on is that we should have established the restaurant in a better location (i.e. within a mall or near a class A village). So after more than a year of running, we sadly closed down the restaurant. And my stepfather left for Japan for good. If it was still open, I’d be sure to bring Z and my wife J as often as possible. That is one thing I wish they were able to experience.
