Earthquakes
The Haiti Quake is still fresh in my memory, but looks like the earth is not resting. Last Saturday there was a 7.3 magnitude earthquake in Japan, good thing no one was reportedly hurt. Then today there is news of a VERY strong 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile. This is a scary thought because the Philippines is also within the Ring of Fire – with active volcanoes and prone to earthquakes. I have experienced a number of earthquakes and it is not something I love remembering. Makes me want to think about relocating my family somewhere far from earthquakes… May God help the survivors in Haiti and Chile, and may he spare our country from calamaties such as this.

The Singer Songwriter Kid Part II
As a follow up to “The Singer Songwriter Kid” post, here is a video of my son playing one of his Original songs in Tagalog.
“Looks like we have a young songwriter, here is one of Z’s many many compositions… he loves to sing about so many things, mostly about cars and jeeps then there are some noteworthy oddballs like this one. We asked him where he heard the term “Wag ka na magalit sa sarili mo”, from TV probably, but he always says that he is referring to a different kid”

The Singer Songwriter Kid
I was in my usual gloomy self (this was the time when the Ondoy flood just hit our area), then I heard something astounding: my 4 year old son was singing a long original song while playing his toy guitar. It was like telling a story but with melody, and the “chug” rythm of his out of tune toy guitar. He was singing his “own” song.
It’s about a lot of things: cars, jeeps, trikes, trains, house, about his father leaving for work etc etc… I asked him what he was doing and he told me that he was singing “his” song. To think that I haven’t touched my guitar in a week after Ondoy, inspiration do come from unexpected places! I recorded him while he was singing but he cut off the song early this time, and said he will practice first. It’s times like these when I say to myself – I am very blessed to be the father of this kid.

Z @ Fun Ranch

We went to Fun Ranch last Saturday – accompanying our loving mommy. It was a blogging event so obviously Z was bored and could not wait to go out and ride on his favorite rides. Good thing that one of our good neighbors brought her kids too so Z played with them for a bit in the playhouse. After the event, we went to have Z ride the bumpcar, train and his favorite the F1 racing car. We were really suprised at how good Z’s driving has gotten. The track was filled with corners and the cars were pretty fast for kids, but he braved it like a pro. It was a fun day for Z and I am always happy as long as my son is smiling.

Toys and Us Part III
The quest for the perfect toy is never ending, we are always in the look out for “something”. Good thing we have mommy to say “No” or better say “maybe next time” if not, our house would be filled with toys by now. While I was checking old pictures I saw Z riding his old beat up Mercedes ride on car, and said to myself – I need to get him a new car. He also complained that the car is now too small for him and I also thought that since we have a new real car – it would be fitting for our Big Boy to have his own. So we hunted for his latest toy. Started off thinking about getting a “Go Kart” type and ended up buying nothing less than a big electric powered ride on car with the Audi Label. It was expensive and I also preferred something better – but when I saw the sparkle in the eyes of my son everytime we talk about the prospect of buying it, my heart melted. And the last straw was when my son said that he dreamed that he had the Audi car at home. So we went out to buy it and I guess our itch for toys have been scratched for the time being – yes, just for the time being (“,).

Toys and Us part II
While I am into action figures and robots (growing up watching Super Sentai shows), my son does not care too much about them, but he LOVES cars. And if you want to know why he is into cars you can read this post. Since my son likes cars – I had to oblige so I learned about the various brands of cars. We watched car related movies (Disney Cars) and animes (Wangan Midnight and Initial D). I remember 2 years ago – my son could recite the first half of Cars – at 2 years old he memorized the movie by watching it over and over. We played the car game in bed – well I get to be the car and he jumps and turns on me. We also play racing games in the PC, PS2 and PSP (Need for Speed, Burn out, Gran Tourismo etc). And ofcourse we play with his countless Tomica/HotWheels/Matchbox diecast car toys. Bottomline is – everything that we do together almost always involves a car. Now his current favorite cars are: ofcourse his Lolo’s Car (Mitsubishi Lancer), AudiR8, Porsche 911 and Nissan Z which is both inspired by the anime Wanggan Midnight. To be continued…
