Holy Week Preparations

While everyone else are on vacation, the holy week is one of the most busiest week for me and my guitars. We usually hold multiple church services within the week, which means that we have to prepare a good number of songs, and of course play them live. Since I am now living quite a distance away from our local church, I’m expecting the schedule and travel time to be quite a challenge this year. So what I did was to prepare a long term schedule for the last week of March and I also ensured that my gear is ready for the task. Good thing the strings are still OK, but I might have to shop guitar strings just to be on the safe side. Oh and I almost forgot that I have to make sure our car is running properly to handle the constant traveling!

Levys Strap

I now own quite a number of guitars, thankfully some of them are borrowed by my relatives, but I still have quite a handful that I alternate every week. After playing multiple guitars for so long, I have a healthy respect for good and sturdy straps. I know that you should not take straps lightly, or cheaply – because if they break and your precious instrument falls or worse falls on your feet, it will be quite painful. Believe I know because it happened to me while playing! So before my latest guitar arrived I was already on the lookout for nice guitar straps, and I ended up buying Levys.

Aubert Violin

My dad also loves playing violin aside from being a pianist and my kid’s tutor in their piano lessons. Yesterday, we are at my dad’s house and timely his new aubert violin from musicians friend arrived and gave me his old violin including some accessories, instead of giving it to my brother who is celebrating his birthday. He wants me to practice more to follow his footsteps for being a violin player.

Peak Music Stands

I’m watching a group of musicians performing live in a circle. While watching them, I observed that there is something missing. They should pick these most comfortable peak music stands as they can and learn how to perform professionally in front of the audience. Honestly it’s very nice and neat seeing any group presenting completely on their own fabulous music stand.

Skills That Pay Bills

How To Find, Stick With, and Enjoy a New Hobby or Activity

A lot of us fall into the trap of becoming complacent as the years go by. We find ourselves stuck in the same routine day after day and soon days turn into weeks which turn into months before we even realize it. One way to slow the passing of time and start enjoying every single hour a little more is by picking up a new hobby. Finding an exciting new activity to partake in will give us a way to fill our free time, meet a diverse bunch of people, and fulfill the personal satisfaction of setting and accomplishing goals. Here are some tips on how to pick (and stick with) a new hobby.

Do Your Research
Before you spend any money trying out a new hobby, first make sure to do your online research to see if it would be something you like. Visit online forums to see if people report mostly positive experiences with the hobby or if a lack of information will destine you to fail. Research how much your new hobby will cost to start and maintain and make sure it’s within your budget.

Try A Variety

It’s important to try a variety of activities before settling on a hobby to invest your time. Friends or family may report having the best time brewing their own beer or learning to play the piano but it may not be up your alley. You may have a funner time playing active sports like cross country skiing or attacking the pins with AMF bowling balls. Small doses from multiple sources is the key to finding a new skill or activity to pursue.
Purchase Good Equipment
Some people might argue that you should use inferior equipment until you hone your craft, but getting started on inadequate devices may cause you to lose interest in the skill. Spending extra money on a guitar or BowlingBalls will help you show quicker results from your practice and will provide you monetary motivation to stick with the craft.

Have An Online Presence
Another great way to stay with your hobby is to find common ground online. Participating in online forums with other ‘newbies’ is a great way to share tips and tricks as well as overcome hurdles that may be holding you back. It’s important to know you’re not alone in learning a new skill and that you have allies in the online world.
It’s important to always keep evolving as a human and learning new skills and hobbies is a great way to expand your repertoire.
